33% increase in volumes for Russian greenhouse vegetable production

In Russia the production of vegetables under glass continues to progress. After a rate of + 14% recorded in 2019, the results for the start of 2020 indicate + 33.6%.
According to official data, as of March 17, 2020, the harvest in winter greenhouses totaled 198,400 tonnes of vegetables, 33.6% more than in 2019 (148,500 tonnes). The production of its winter greenhouses is divided into 142,000 tonnes of cucumbers (+ 42%), 52,500 tonnes of tomatoes (+ 17.7%), and 3,900 tonnes (+ 39.2%) of other vegetables .
In 2019, the greenhouse vegetable harvest reached 1.14 million tonnes. This is 14% more than in 2018 and 26.7% more than the average of the last 5 years. This year, production should reach 1.25 million tonnes, i.e. + 6.1% compared to 2019.
In 5 years, more than 1,200 hectares of high-tech greenhouse complexes have been built and modernized. Production volumes increased by 87.9% compared to 2014. By 2025, greenhouse vegetable production should reach 1.6 million tonnes.
