AFRUIBANA is the association of fruit producers and exporters mainly from Cameroon, Ivory Coast and Ghana, determined to make their voices heard better in the EU, the main outlet for African bananas.
Bringing together producers and exporters of fruit from the African continent, the association aims to weigh more during international trade and promote trade between Africa and Europe.
AFRUIBANA has just been launched in Brussels. The association has its headquarters in Douala (Cameroon) and a permanent representation in Brussels with the European institutions. AFRUIBANA is made up of ASSOBACAM (Banana Association of Cameroon), OBAMCI (Organization of producers-exporters of bananas, pineapples, mangoes and other fruits from Côte d'Ivoire). The association is an open platform bringing together fruit producers from the continent.
According to its president, Mr. Joseph Owona Kono, AFRUIBANA has an essential role and can "highlight the importance of the African fruit sector, a great source of employment and a barrier to rural exodus and migration".
The association's action plan already includes several strategic deadlines such as the EU-Africa Summit which will take place in Abidjan at the end of November 2017 and then in January 2018, the preparation of the agreements on the price of bananas.
