Cherries: forecast of higher production than in 2012

Production in 2013 is predicted significantly higher than in 2012

The Service for Statistics and Prospective (SSP) of the Ministry of Agriculture estimated production of cherries. France will produce 47,400 tons of cherries, or +56% compared to 2012 and +10% over the 5-year average.

The early May  forecast is temporary, climate or sanitary incidents can arise until the final harvest and affect this estimate.

In the Rhone-Alpes region, the production promises to be much higher (+97%) compared to 2012, which had been reduced. Delay of 15 days compared to the previous year. In the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region, production increase (+39%), delay of 15 days is expected. In Languedoc-Roussillon region, expected output is slightly higher than last year's (+5%), delay of 1-2 weeks. In Midi-Pyrenees region, expected soaring output (+130%), predicted delay of 15 days.
