According to data of Agreste, the statistical service of the Ministry of Agriculture, national apple production is estimated at 1.67 million tonnes.
Production in 2014 would be down by -4% compared to 2013 and lower by -3% from the average of 2009 to 2013.
For the Midi-Pyrenees region, production is slightly down but unlike last year the sizes should be normal. For the region Pays de la Loire, flowering was not optimal and due to a cool, moist climate yields will be lower. For the PACA region, production is expected to decrease as a result of episodes of hail and decrease of production surfaces.
In the Rhône-Alpes region, summer rainfall favored fruit development. The production will be higher than last year. In Centre region, production is forecast to increase compared to 2013. In Limousin region, the deficit in fruits or damage due to hail are offset by high magnification of fruits, thanks to summer precipitation. In Languedoc-Roussillon, the production potential is higher than that of 2013.
