Russia
Monday 09 July 2007
The unpredictable weather doesn't allow growers from the Ural region to increase the production next year. The production of vegetables in the Ekaterinburg region in 2007 is larger than in 2006 only due to the larger acreage of plantations. According to the deputy director of company `Hot-house` Ltd. Yuri Pavlov, now everything goes well, especially the harvest of vegetables. This year company's production exists of 81 hectares of cabbages (white, red) and cauliflowers, 20 hectares of carrots and 14 hectares of beets.
Up to the second week of June the company harvested and sold 850 MT of cucumbers, 310 MT of tomatoes and 310 thousand bunches of greens. An increase of productivity occurs only due to the larger acreage because weather greatly interferes production in the area where company is located. According to the `Hot-house` Ltd. Representative, this year's plan probably will not be realized. Good thing is the increased volumes of sales of lettuces which is in great demand during summer period in Russia.
