Vietnam prohibits the use of glyphosate

The Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture has announced the removal of glyphosate from the list of authorized products in the country and consequently the ban on importing herbicides containing glyphosate.

 

 

 

On March 27, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development announced the ban on the use of herbicides containing glyphosate. This decision comes after the July 18 verdict of a California jury in the Hardeman / Monsanto case that Roundup exposure was a substantial factor in Mr. Hardeman's cancer.

 

 

 

Widely used for more than 40 years worldwide as in Vietnam, glyphosate was authorized in Vietnam since 1994 and was included in the composition of 104 commercial products.

 

 

 

Since April 2016, the Ministry had stopped approvals for new products and gathered scientific information and facts about the impact of glyphosate on health and the environment.

 

 

 

The ministry also asked companies, organizations and individuals to report the production, sale or storage of glyphosate herbicides. Then the ministry announced, on April 10, 2019, the removal of glyphosate from the list of authorized products in the country.
