ABRAFRUTAS, the Brazilian association of fruit growers and exporters, reported an increase in exports in the 3rd quarter. With Brazilian exports still higher in the last quarter, annual growth could be between +5 and + 8%.
ABRAFRUTAS (Associação Brasileira dos Produtores Exportadores de Frutas e Derivados) announces for the 3rd quarter of 2020 an increase in volume expropriations of 6% compared to the same period in 2019. In terms of turnover, the value remains almost similar to the previous year, with around $512 million.
Among the main exported fruits: pineapple, orange, lemon, banana, apple, grape, and mango. After declining last year, orange exports have returned to normal. For bananas, just over 69,000 tonnes were exported, there was an increase in the volume exported to Mercosur countries, in particular Argentina. For melon, there is a decrease of about 2% compared to 2019 but this is due to the delay of this harvest. The production is going well and with good quality and the volumes are expected to increase significantly in the coming months.
“The partial improvement in exports via air transport also had an influence on the growth in the volume exported. Historically, Brazil's fresh fruit exports have been higher in the last quarter, leading us to believe that we should end the year with growth of between 5% and 8% compared to 2019,” said the executive director of Abrafrutas.
