Organic fruit & vegetable production in Turkey

The production of organic fruit and vegetable in Turkey gets developping more and more. Apples, tomatoes, figs, table grapes, apricots, strawberries, onions and cherries are the flagship products. The production has more than doubled during the last five years, apples volume increased from 24,000 to 52,000 tons, tomatoes from 7,000 to 22,000 tons, figs from 7,000 to 15,000 tons, grapes from 7,000 to 13,000 tons ; the only production of apricots decreased.
The great part of the production will be exported as fresh, dried, frozen or processed products.
Eastern countries are not the best customers for this organic production, Germany and the UK remaining the main importers.
The presence of the main important turkish companies at the World Food Moscow fair confirms that Turkey is the kitchen garden of eastern countries. But eastern countries are more and more opened to other markets, their standard of living increases and the demand for fresh products goes on growing.
