Italian Importers-Exporters’ Association ANEIOA reveals that citrus fruits’ exports have improved relevantly (+27% in volumes and +62% in value), as well as vegetables (respectively +18 and +17%). On the contrary foreign sales of fruit have decreased by 5.4% in volumes, but improved by 20.8% in value.
Total exports amounted 1,822,331 tons from January to June 2008, that is +6.3% compared to the same period 2007. For value the increase was by 20.9%
Considering imports, a rise by 11% was registered in purchases from abroad of vegetables and legumes, while fresh fruit increased by 12% in volumes and 14.4% in value. Tropical fruit also grew, by 4.9% in volume for 45,500 tons, while dry fruit is decreasing.
Imports of citrus fruit show adverse signs: volumes have dropped relevantly (-19.9% for around 115,000 imported tons, against 143,000 in 2007) but turnover increased to 96,646,000 euros, + 16.3% compared to 2007.
On the whole, imports rose by 6% both in volumes and in value.
The trade balance is therefore in the black: +9.1% in volume (for 203,834 tons compared to 186,000 in 2007) and 95.5% in value (over 471 million euros compared to about 241 in the first six months 2007).
