Egypt exported 2.3 million metric tons of citrus fruits in the 2023/24 season.
This is the first time Egypt has surpassed 2 million tons of citrus exports.
Egypt has surpassed the 2 million-ton mark for citrus fruit exports for the first time ever. According to GOEIC (General Authority for the Control of Exports and Imports), citrus exports reached 2.3 million tons during the 2023/24 marketing season, representing a 21% increase compared to the previous year.
Orange exports accounted for 81% of the total citrus exports, reaching 1.93 million tons. The country’s orange production recorded a +25% increase over the 2022/2023 season.
Total revenue from citrus exports reached $1.1 billion, marking a 22% increase.
The three main destination countries were Russia, Saudi Arabia, and the Netherlands, which purchased a combined 760,000 tons of citrus, representing a 23% increase. Citrus exports to European countries also saw growth: France (+86%), the UK (+76%), Ireland (+37%), and Spain (+17%).
