Japanese farms experiment with IC tags.

An experiment to track the distribution of farm products by attaching small integrated circuit tags to them is being conducted in parts of Japan.
The tags are attached to boxes when they are shipped and then the items are tracked right through the distribution channel to the supermarket shelves.
At the retail outlets, tags are attatched to individual items and they can be scanned by consumers to let them know the history of the product they are buying.
