Bespoke solutions for packing and sorting that enhance product quality

60-years of experience in the fresh produce sector enabled Milbor PMC to establish their work ethic and understanding of the unique characteristics of fruit and veg production. The company provides tailor-made solutions for packing and sorting lines that measurably optimize production and its costs, and boost the quality of the final product. 

This week, Fructidor had a conversation with Maciej Chmielewski, Area Sales Manager for Milbor PMC, who explained how growers can benefit from their technology.

Fructidor: What kind of sorting equipment do you utilize?

Maciej: In our offer you will find high-quality sorting equipment. We have sorters for both large fruit growers and smaller fruit growers. Our machines are characterized by the highest production quality and sorting accuracy. The AirJet® sorting system is the most technologically advanced grading machinery on the market. The line features three types of AirJet™ Vision cameras - full HD, black and white, and near infrared (NIR) cameras. The grading machinery captures 21 images of the fruit surface, allowing inspection of more than 90% of the surface of each fruit. We also have conventional sorters - optical, size and soft sorters.

Fructidor: What type of packaging do you offer? Any sustainable options?

Maciej: Our machines are versatile and can pack fruit in containers with lids, shakers and buckets, as well as carton packs. In addition, we see changes in consumer’s purchasing process and market requirements. We understand what our clients are dealing with and therefore we know what they need. In our offer we have machines that use a topseal technology. The machine allows the topseal shrink film to be bonded to the container, preventing spillage of packaged fruit and giving the packaging an attractive and hygienic appearance. The pandemic and related restrictions have made consumers reach more often for this type of packaging due to safety reasons. Topseal application includes packing fruits and vegetables in recycled plastic containers as well as cardboard or paper pulp containers.

Fructidor: Who are your clients? With which countries do you work? 

Maciej: Our customers are year-round packers and large exporters, but also medium and smaller fruit growers. The leading countries in terms of fruit sale are Spain, Poland, Germany and BENELUX. The Western markets and the BENELUX markets are important for the industry in which we operate and we will continue to be active there. We also see growth in countries where the soft fruits market has just started to develop. It is primarily a Balkan region. We have our clients there too.

Fructidor: Do you process any other fruit or veg besides blueberries, cranberries, cherries, soft fruits, tomatoes, nuts?

Maciej: Our packaging machines can pack many fruits and vegetables. In addition to the fruits and vegetables mentioned above, we have supplied our customers with solutions for mini kiwifruit, cherry tomatoes, plums and pomegranate. Recently our customers have been also asking for suitable packaging for salads and herbs. We offer them top-seal type of packaging as the best solution. This way growers can be sure that the product will be properly packed and will stay fresh for longer.

Fructidor: Do you have any specific plans for 2022?

Maciej: Our mission, as in previous years, is to support fruit growers and producers by providing and implementing high-end technology solutions without compromising on quality and maintaining the highest level of after-sales support in terms of service and responsiveness. This year, we also want to focus more on promoting nut machines. We work with suppliers of great machines and our solutions are a complex response to customer needs. We already have several large and small projects completed in this segment. Worth to mention that we will be at Fruit Logistica with our partner A&B Packing Equipment.
