WAPA Plans Slightly Lower Apple and Pear Production for the Southern Hemisphere

WAPA estimates are based on information collected from professionals in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, New Zealand and South Africa.
WAPA (World Apple and Pear Association) held its annual general meeting at Fruit Logistica. Based on information collected from the main producing and exporting countries of the southern hemisphere, the estimates indicate a slightly declining production of apples and pears.
According to WAPA estimates for 2020, apple production in the southern hemisphere should reach just over 5 million tonnes (-1% compared to 2019) and pear production 1.276 million tonnes (-3% compared to 2019).
As for exports, those of apples are expected to remain stable at around 1.725 million tonnes and those of pears are expected to drop by around 2% to around 691 660 tonnes.
