Tough times for truffles

share
France
Thursday 12 February 2004

The 2003-2004 winter season is a low one for truffles, according to specialists. At the Carpentras market, the first sales registered low volumes of approximately 55kgs, but at very high prices. This, of course, is due to the hot dry summer of 2003. It is also worth noting that a similar situation is true in Spain. All this is a worry for many professionnels, who consider that this drop may not just be temporary, but more fundamental and questions are being asked about the future of truffles in France.
