19.4% drop in Cameroon's banana exports in November

Cameroon plans to increase its annual production to 500,000 tons by 2030.
In November 2024, Cameroon exported a total of 16,004 tons of bananas, down significantly from the 19,866 tons exported in the same month of 2023, according to data from the Cameroon Banana Association (Assobacam). This represents a decrease of 3,862 tons, equivalent to 19.4% less in year-on-year comparison.
The main cause of this decline was the slowdown in the operations of one of the main players in the market, whose exports decreased by almost 30%. On the other hand, several other companies achieved a positive performance.
Bananas remain a key source of revenue for Cameroon. In 2023, the country exported bananas worth 42.9 billion CFA francs (approximately $68.7 million) to G7 countries (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States). According to the National Development Strategy 2020-2030, Cameroon plans to increase its annual production to 500,000 tons by 2030, up from the current range of 210,000 to 240,000 tons.
