Positive dynamics for the Moroccan citrus sector, ever more planted areas and increasing production.
For the 2016/17 season, the Ministry of Agriculture of Morocco estimates that the volume of citrus fruit production could reach 2.36 million tonnes. An increase of 16% compared to the previous season.
This increase in production is the consequence of the rainfall received in autumn. This new season will be the reverse of the 2015-16 season which was marked by dry periods leading to lower yields.
In its agricultural development strategy, PMV (Plan Maroc Vert) advocated planting targets to reach 2.9 million tonnes of citrus fruit produced in 2018/19. The target of 105 000 hectares in 2018 is largely exceeded with 115 000 hectares already planted.
