Chile secures indefinite recognition of organic certification system from the European Union

Decision confirms long-term stability for organic exports to the European market.
Chile has secured indefinite recognition of its organic certification system from the European Union, confirming continued market access for Chilean organic products and strengthening planning certainty for exporters.
According to Chile’s Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG), the European Union confirmed the ongoing validity of the Organic Equivalence Agreement during its periodic review process. Chile remains the only country in South America with this type of recognition.
The agreement, signed in 2017, allows organic products certified in Chile to enter the European Union without additional certification. Covered categories include fresh and processed plant products such as fruit and vegetables, wine, seeds and propagation material, and honey.
In 2025, Chile exported more than 19,000 tonnes of organic products. The main shipments were processed goods, led by:
· frozen berries - 3,190 tonnes
· fruit purée - 641 tonnes
· dried or dehydrated fruit - 257 tonnes
The European Union also extended the transition deadline for third-country exporters to align with updated equivalence systems to 2036, providing additional time for regulatory adjustment.
