The price of Spanish garlic has jumped due to the shortage on the international market.
In China because of the Coronavirus epidemic garlic exports have stopped. Since China produces around 80% of the garlic consumed in the world, there is a shortage on the international market.
According to ANPCA (Asociación Nacional de Productores y Comercializadores de Ajos) the Spanish garlic sector has increased its exports by around 30%. New markets, destitute of the shortage of Chinese products, have opened up to Spanish garlic.
As far as prices are concerned, Spanish garlic has increased by around 15 to 20% but for certain sizes and varieties the increase has reached 40%.
