The new Common Agricultural Policy (2014-2020) for the EU emerges.
After months of negotiations, the Europeans reached an agreement on the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for the period 2014-2020. Among the most emblematic measures of the new CAP, the concern for a more ecological agriculture. A portion of the subsidies paid to farmers will depend on the compliance with ecological measures (diversification, respect for trees and biodiversity hedges).
European aids will be better distributed among farmers from the same country or the same region. Currently, 80% of direct payments are allocated to 20% of farms. States may devote 8% to 13% of aids to certain productions in difficulty. The premium paid to farmers in mountain and underprivileged areas, paid to 100,000 farmers will be raised by 50%.
