La Libertad region prepares for the table grape export season
VU
The La Libertad region began the phytosanitary certification of fresh grapes for the 2021/22 export campaign, as reported by the National Agrarian Health Service of Peru (SENASA).
18 production sites have been certified, where the phytosanitary management of the crop and the techniques used to guarantee the control of quarantine pests regulated by the importing countries were examined.
For this season, six certified processing and packaging plants are ready for the reception, packaging, certification, storage and shipment of the product.
It should be noted that while the season unfolds, unforeseen supervisions are carried out at the production sites and packing plants, to verify the maintenance of sanitary and phytosanitary standards.
The grapes grown in the La Libertad region are mainly destined for the United States, the Netherlands, Mexico, Canada, South Korea, and Spain, among others.
For the current season, a 30% increase in exported volume is projected compared to the previous season.
The main places of grape production are located in the provinces of Ascope and Chepén, which have 1 210 certified hectares and five packing plants.
