Peruvian asparagus exports surpass $382 million in 2023

In 2023, Peruvian exports of fresh asparagus reached a total of $382 million, marking a 4% increase compared to the previous year's $369 million, as reported by local media.
The volume of shipments of this fresh vegetable in 2023 amounted to 97,000 tons (-25%) compared to the 129,000 tons from the previous year.
Such change is attributed to the appreciation of prices in the international market, which averaged $4.32 per kilogram in 2023, +28% compared to 2022 when the price was $3.37 per kilogram on average.
The main exporting regions of this Peruvian veg in 2023 were Ica with 38,000 tons and La Libertad with 35,000 tons, together accounting for 75% of Peru's total asparagus shipments. Lima followed (12,000 tons); Áncash (9,000 tons); and Lambayeque (4,000 tons).
The United States remained the primary market, (72,000 tons), despite a 23.4% decline compared to the 94,000 tons dispatched in 2022. This country received 74.2% of the total volume shipped.
Other destinations: Spain, 9,000 tons (10,000 tons in 2022), contributing 9% of the total; the United Kingdom, 6,000 tons (8,000 tons in 2022), representing 6% of the total; the Netherlands (4%); Belgium (1%); Mexico (1%); Brazil (1%).
