Union between Peru and Chile to export avocados to the USA

Peru and Chile are jointly planning to export  avocados to the United States.

The two South American countries will be able to supply the United States, the largest avocado importer and second largest consumer country avocado in the world, all year round.

Peru is the only country in the world which exports avocados during spring and summer time, complementary to exports of Chile in fall and winter time.

This new offer will come to compete with Mexico products, main supplier of avocados of the USA.

In 2010, the USA are going to buy more than 612 349 tons of avocados : 222 260 tons will result from California, 294 835 tons will come from Mexico and 125 0005 tons from Chile, according to the figures of the avocado Hass Committee,
