Australia looks set for a much larger orange crop this season, albeit characterised by slightly smaller sizes, according to initial forecasts from the regional citrus bodies.
Navel production for the Murray Valley region is forecast to reach 90,172 tonnes, up 43.7% on last season.
In the NSW Riverina, growers are expecting to pick 60,000 tonnes of navels, up 4,000 tonnes on last year, while in South Australia’s Riverland, the navel crop is forecast to bounce back to 70,000 tonnes, a 27% increase on last year’s drought affected yield of 55,000 tonnes.
