Rebound in citrus exports
MLK
According to statistics of May published by the Union of the Mediterranean Exporters, citrus exports grew by 185% in quantity and 109% in value: it is the pomelo that holds the record with an export, which passes from approximately 2,000 tons in 2013 to approximately 17,000 tons in May 2014. The oranges are not left with a 320% increase from 3500 tons to 15,000 tons. The smallest increase is that of lemons, only (!) of 53%.
The reason for this increase may be due to the fact that the Russian market has experienced a lot of problems this season with the opening hours and prices offered very low. But exporters have preferred to sell at lower prices rather than ending up with unsold fruits.
