Turkey: 213,000 trucks disembarked in Trieste

The chairman of the Port of Trieste Claudio Boniciolli had a meeting with the Turkish truck transporters’ association UND and with Turkey’s port and maritime authorities, aimed at consolidating the leadership of the port of Trieste in the shipping connections between Turkey and Europe.
Turkish trucks that used the transport service by ship to Trieste in 2007 were 213,000. The goal proposed by
Boniciolli proposed as goal consolidating this route including also the Countries on the Black Sea and those of Central Asia.
Trucks and containers’ transport is done mainly by a ro-ro service, which was recently sold for more than one billion dollars by the same UND fund to the American Kravis.
During the talks, the Turkish counterparts have announced the project to strengthen the direct transport services between the south of Turkey, Iraq and Syria. In particular, they have reported the existence of negotiations with Syria for giving birth to a mixed line of navigation from that country to Europe.
The UND has also expressed its intention to set up a new shipping company with over 120 million euro fund and with five new ships.
The construction of two new ports on the part of Turkey was also announced. They will be located on the Aegean Sea (Candarli) and the other on the Black Sea (Filyos).
