In 10 years, the Spanish production has increased by 70% while consumption grew by only 5.5%.
The carrot production increased by 70.23 % in Spain in 10 years: 252,000 tons in 1999 to 429,000 tons in 2009, according to a study by the Center for Food prices in the Ministry of Environment (MARM).
98% of Spanish production is concentrated in areas of Cadiz, Segovia, Valladolid, Alicante and Seville. The export volume represents for nearly 113,000 tons.
If production has exploded, carrot consumption in Spain has increased very little in recent years, about 5.5% increasing from 3.98 kg / year per capita in 2004 to 4.20 kg / year per capita in 2009.
