With a 10% growth, the state solidifies its position as the national leader in citrus production, while simultaneously strengthening security and certification measures to improve the market.
Limon production in Michoacán has increased by over 10% in the first eight months of the year, according to the Agri-Food and Fisheries Information Service (SIAP). This progress has been achieved despite the violence in the Tierra Caliente region, where packing operations continue to function normally.
From January to August, Michoacán harvested 601,028 tons of lemons, a 10.3% increase compared to the 544,875 tons harvested in the same period in 2023. This solidifies Michoacán's national leadership in lemon production, followed by Veracruz and Oaxaca.
The municipalities of Tierra Caliente, such as Buenavista and Apatzingán, are the main producers. Despite the security challenges, the harvest has not decreased, and surveillance measures have been intensified to ensure the continuity of activities. Additionally, actions are being implemented to formalize and certify production, aiming to add value and improve income.
