In Peru presently export of citrus fruit reaches 30.000 tons, that represents 4% of the national production which amounts to 800.000 tons. The yield is 10-11 tons per hectare, much less than in the USA, Turkey or Spain where growers collect 30 - 35 tons per hectare.
Production of citrus in Peru augments about 3,5 % a year. There is an overproduction of citrus what results in a decline of price in domestic market of approximately 50% compared with prices in the last decade of previous century.
