In Singapore, the drop in demand from catering establishments was offset by the increase in household demand.
Despite the pandemic, imports of fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables have increased, according to the Singapore Food Agency. For the period from April to the end of May, Singapore imported 95,100 tonnes of legumes (84,400 tonnes for the same period in 2019 and 74,100 tonnes of fruit (68,800 tonnes in 2019).
The increase in imported fruits and vegetables is due to increased consumer demand during the pandemic, according to the Singapore Fruits and Vegetables Importers and Exporters Association. The drop in demand from catering establishments was largely offset by demand from households.
