More competition in Asian markets for Australian citrus
FJ
Exports from South Africa are increasing on Asian markets that compete Australian products .
CGAS , the Citrus Growers Association of Southern Africa has reported a 50% increase in exports to China. Asian markets have replaced the European market which limits imports from South Africa , due to illness ( citrus black spot).
In Europe, South Africa's exports fell of 10 % , as exporters have turned to other destinations. The Middle East and Asia in particular where they come in direct competition with Australian exports to this market.
Professionals agree that there is enough room in these markets for the exports of two countries , saying they would even work together to increase the consumption of citrus fruits .
