Fruit export is still little affected

Despite having experienced a decline in the value of its total exports, Costa Rica has seen little impact on its agricultural exports.

 

 

 

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Foreign Trade, Costa Rica's exports fell by 11% in value in April. This decrease was caused by the slowdown in international consumption and the logistical disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

 

 

During the same period, exports of agricultural products decreased by only 1% in value. Melon, bananas and pineapples led these exports.

 

 

 

Pineapple production is likely to be one of the sectors most affected by the strengthening of health controls against COVID-19. For its part, Canapep (Cámara Nacional de Productores y Exportadores de Piña) assured that all the protocols requested by the health authorities are applied on farms and fruit packaging factories.
