In Toronto (Canada) bakeries, fast food chains and some restaurants have removed lettuce from their menus or sandwiches due to a serious shortage.
According to local media, in recent weeks with regard to romaine lettuce, red lettuce, iceberg, a price surge has been recorded with often more than 50% increase. Bakeries, fast food chains and some restaurants have removed lettuce from their menus and sandwiches, telling their customers that lettuce is temporarily unavailable.
This shortage of lettuce in Canada is caused by a lower supply from California where a large crop area has been affected by drought and a virus that has decimated lettuces.
This situation is temporary and Canadian professionals are hoping for a return to normal before the holiday season.
