Cameroon to increase agricultural land by 20%
MD
With 10% of its land devoted to crops Cameroon has an agricultural potential largely untapped.
To improve its trade balance for export and to meet the challenge of food next year, Cameroon wants to expand its agricultural land. By 2015 it aims to increase its arable land from 3.7 million hectares to 4.5 million hectares, an increase of 20%.
The increase of arable land will be accompanied by a program to improve productivity, mechanization and training. Cameroon will invest 134 billion CFA francs (204 million euros) over 15 years to complete this program.
