Pineapple production will increase and exports are expected to double in the next 7 years.
Pineapple exports from Panama will double in the next 7 years, according to a producer from Panama.
Firstly, grants to assist industry, mean that the government pays 3 cents for each kilogram of pineapple exported. Second, increasing growing area as the 3,500 hectares of pineapples in Panama, is a far cry from 50,000 hectares in Costa Rica
. The more rugged terrain of Panama is an advantage because it avoids the accumulation of water that increases moisture and attracts rodents.
The certifications obtained by Panama require less chemical treatment, and the range of fruit is more varied. All these reasons will lead to increased production and hence exports in the coming years.
