Record of production and consumption for the British asparagus are announced for this 2010 season.
Traditionally, the season of asparaguses extends of April 23rd until the end of June.
But the most rigorous winter since 20 years on the British islands delayed the cultures. The first asparaguses will be harvested this week.
The productivity should be in increase of 15 % and the total production could reach 5.000 tons. Intended for the internal market, the British asparaguses show the arrival of the spring.
The volume of consumption is estimated at 8.000 tons, for a value of about 18 million pounds. The main suppliers are Guatemala, Mexico and Spain.
