Grapes, apples and kiwis, the leading trio of Chilean fruit exports for the 2016-17 season (from 1 September 2016 to 31 August 2017).
The 2016-17 season of Chilean fruit exports ended with a 4.3% increase over the previous season, totaling 2.597 million tonnes. The volume exported thus does not reach the 2.654 million realized during the 2012-13 season and current record to beat.
According to ASOEX, the Chilean Fruit Exporters Association, weather conditions have not been favorable over the period and have had negative effects. Virtually all products had a harvest advance of between 2 and 3 weeks, which resulted in a frontal shock on export markets with local production or those from third countries.
Table grapes are the 1st fruit with 732,498 tonnes exported (+ 6.5% compared to 2015-16), second red apples with 616,694 tonnes, then in 3rd place the kiwifruit with 179 393 tons. Shipments of avocados accounted for + 36.5%, pears + 17%, cherries + 13.8% and blueberries 13.7%
