Wednesday 19 December 2007
The European Union will allocate 73 million euro for Tunisia to fund the reforms in the economic liberalisation and sustainable development sectors, the delegation of the European Commission in Tunis announced.
Some 43 million euro will be granted for a programme to promote “the sustainable exploitation of the natural resources” - news agency AnsaMed reports - and in support of the companies so as to meet the environmental regulations.
In addition, other 30 million are intended for the necessary reforms for the economy's liberalisation and opening of an area of free trade with the EU in 2008.
The funding is part of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP), which will allocate for Tunisia a budget of 300 million euro by 2010.
Being the first Mediterranean partner to sign an association agreement with the EU in 1995, Tunisia was also one of the first Maghreb Countries to adopt the action plan proposed by Brussels to the Mediterranean partners.
