Wal-Mart, the US distributor, opens this month two stores in Germany : one in the Hanover region, one nearby Leipzig. Up to now, the US group only took over 93 Wertkauf and Interspar stores. These new 11 000-sq. m selling points will employ some 2 000 people. If Wal-Mart denies rumours about the axing of 1 350 jobs, the group will have to face a Euro230 million loss nevertheless.
