Avocados: 12% rise in the value of Kenya's exports

Kenya is Africa's leading exporter of avocados. The country continues to record increases in both production volume and export earnings.
According to local media reports, according to HCD (Horticultural Crops Directorate) data, export earnings from avocados in 2023 reached KES 19 billion (USD 133 million), up 12% on the previous year.
Production in Kenya is growing at an annual rate of around 17.4%, boosting the volume of exports. The main destination remains the European Union, which accounts for 55% of total export revenues. Following the opening up of the Chinese market, Kenya continues to seek to diversify its outlets, and talks are underway with other countries, including the United States and South Korea.
Kenya is Africa's leading exporter of avocados and the world's 7th largest exporter behind Mexico, Peru, Chile, Colombia, the Netherlands and Spain.
