Witloof production for the 2008 season

Growers have reported an increase in witloof production for the 2008/09 season. This may be due, some growers say, to the increase in witloof roots produced this year; others say it is due to a longer production period (which has increased by one or two months from the past years). Some fear that this, as well as the ever increasing exports of witloof from Belgium may affect the French prices for the 2008/09 season, but others  assure the prices will remain stable, thanks to an increase in consumption. Regardless, France remains the largest European producer of witloof.
