Russia takes a liking to fruit imports

Agricultural imports to Russia have more than doubled between 2002 and 2006, to US$21.1bn. A further 38 per cent growth in the first half of 2007 has been reported. Fresh fruit imports were valued at US$2.7bn in 2006, almost doubling in value between 2004 and 2006. Russia is now the world’s leading importer of fresh apples, fresh pears and fresh sweet cherries.
