The affected workers were taken to local hospitals for immediate medical attention.
More than 60 workers from the Frutícola del Sur agricultural estate in Ica were hospitalized after exposure to the fungicide difenoconazole during harvesting activities, according to information from EsSalud released on November 7.
The affected workers reported symptoms including headaches, nausea, and vomiting, and were transferred to the Augusto Hernández Mendoza and Félix Torrealva Gutiérrez hospitals, where most remain in stable condition. Health authorities are conducting an epidemiological investigation to determine how the chemical came into contact with the workers, with preliminary findings suggesting skin exposure during field operations. The incident occurred at a blueberry-producing farm operated by Agrícola Athos S.A. in the Ica region.
