The season of Noirmoutier potatoes has started
With the onset of fine weather, early Noirmoutier potatoes are available every year for a short season. At Groupe Marais the 2021 season has just started and will last until mid-July.
The island of Noirmoutier, located in the Vendée, near the Loire estuary and on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, benefits from an exceptional microclimate. Thanks to this microclimate, the Noirmoutier potato is the earliest potato in France.
The Noirmoutier potato has a unique natural identity. Grown under the ocean spray, the early potato from the island of Noirmoutier is distinguished by its very thin skin and his sweet taste. On 1 July 2020 the Noirmoutier potato has received a Protected Geographical Indication label from the European Commission. The Commission considered that “its characteristics are directly linked to the soil properties of the island of Noirmoutier.”
The Noirmoutier potatoes’ season is very short. The season started on 15 March this year and will last until mid-July.
Groupe Marais, as a network of independent producers, works to maintain the quality of Noirmoutier potatoes by offering various types of packaging, including eco-responsible wooden and carton packaging to reduce the use of plastic:
- wooden basket with carton lid of 1 kg and 500 g
- wooden hamper of 5 kg
- cardboard box of 12,5 kg
- net of 1 kg, 1,5 kg and 2,5 kg
In addition, Groupe Marais has introduced the Zero Pesticide Residue Program. With its assortment, sold under the brand name “100% Vert’land”, the manufacturer guarantees to the consumers the absence of residues for more than 220 active substances incompatible with program.
