The financial impact of the disease Psa on the New Zealand kiwifruit industry will be severe according to the report from KVH.
The KVH (Kiwifruit Vine Health) has published its report on the impact of Psa on the kiwifruit industry in New Zealand.
KVH's report estimates that over the next 5 years, Psa will cost between $310 and $410 million (between €187 and €247 million) to the sector in terms of immediate impacts and costs.
In the long run, Psa will cost between $740 and $
885 million (between €447 and €535 million) in terms of lost development. The disease could result in the loss of nearly 500 jobs per year between 2012 and 2015 in the sector and among subcontractors.
The latest bulletin from KVH (05/10/2012) lists 1,184 infected orchards or 6,172 hectares representing 36% of orchards in New Zealand.
