Merger of PP Tropisch Fruit and Banken Champignons in De Lier

Netherlands
Monday 22 December 2008

As of 1 January 2009, the branches of Banken Champignons in De Lier and PP Tropisch Fruit will continue together as Westland Mushrooms BV. Currently operating as a PP Tropisch Fruit salesman, Harold Schuurmans is to be the new company’s manager.

The merger makes Westland Mushrooms BV the undisputed Benelux market leader in the field of fresh exotic mushrooms. The product range includes chantarelles, Pied de Mouton, shii-take, eryngii and shimeji (beech mushroom).

"The partnership combines the strong Banken logistics network with the wide range of PP Tropisch Fruit wild mushrooms and cultivated exotic mushrooms," says Schuurmans.

"In addition, the scaling-up and the joining of forces will enable us to market our products at competitive prices."

New location

PP Tropisch Fruit’s current managing director and founder, Piet Peters, is to continue his activities with Westland Mushrooms BV in purchasing and sales. The newly merged company will relocate to a new location in the Westland, to be determined at a later date.

The customers of PP Tropisch Fruit and Banken Champignons in De Lier are mainly fruit and vegetable exporters, importers and wholesale companies. In addition to exotic mushrooms, Banken Champignons in De Lier also sells white button mushrooms and fresh sprouts. These products will also continue to be part of Westland Mushrooms BV’s product range.
