Peruvian pomegranate exports value exceeds $39 million up to week 13

Since week 52 of 2023 and up to week 13 of the current pomegranate season, Peru has shipped abroad 1,098 containers of this fruit, reaching a total volume of 18,997 tons and a value of $39,046,660. According to a local media, 2,176 tons were exported in January, followed by 7,205 tons in February and 9,563 tons in March. In summary, this represents a decrease of -14% compared to the previous season.
According to the same source, 83% of shipments went to the European market, experiencing a 9% reduction compared to the previous season. In second place is North America with 12% of Peruvian exports (and a 21% increase in its share as a destination for the fruit). In third place is the Middle East with a 3% share (and a 67% decrease in its share).
This season, five producing regions stand out for their exports. Ica leads the way with the shipment of 12,357 tons, representing 65% of total Peruvian exports. Arequipa follows with 6,258 tons and a 33% share. This was followed by Lima with 311 tons (2%); Tacna with 51 tons (0.3%) and Lambayeque with 20 tons (0.1%).
It is important to note that 99.9% of pomegranate exports were exported by sea, while only 0.1% were exported by air.
