First apple export to China

South Africa performed for the 1st time an apple shipping to China.

After 8 years of negotiations , the Chinese market has just opened to the South African apples. The first batch of apples was shipped from Cape Town aboard the ship CMA Puccini to Shanghai where it will arrive on May 2 .This first batch contains 1120 cartons ( approximately 18 kg) of Beaut Royal apples ( a close variety to Royal Gala ).

SAAPPA (SA Apple and Pear Producers' Association) , the Apple and Pear Growers Association notes that China is a major market of crucial strategic importance to the development of the sector .
