Expected increase in the production of apples and pears

The 2013 Spanish production of apples and pears is forecast to increase.
At the end of the meeting of apples and pears Committee, FEPEX prodicts a production growth by 10% this season for pears and by 11% for apples.
For pears, Rioja and Aragon regions provide a production growth of 20% compared to last season, the region of Cataluña an increase of 11%. These three regions represent more than 80% of the national production of pears should total 390,000 tons. This production will be 10% higher than the production in 2012 but below the average of the last five years.
For apples, an increase of 11% compared to 2012 is expected. Domestic production should reach 434,000 tons. In Aragón region production in 2013 will be 20% higher in 2012, in the Rioja region and +10%, in the region of Cataluña +4%.
According to the Ministry of Economy, Spanish exports in 2012 have reached 33,075 tons for apples and 41 410 tonnes for pears.
