Albanian agricultural production grows

Growth in Albanian agricultural production was driven up by a considerable increase in the production of vegetables (+15%) and fruit (10%) in 2008 compared to the 2007 results.
This was reported by Informest, the services and documentation centre for international economic cooperation, on the basis of the information provided by the Albanian agricultural ministry.
The considerable advance in the sector can be attributed, according to the ministry, to support measures applied by the government, which have led to an increase in the level of investments in the sector compared to last year. The assistance measures in 2008 also included loans for farmers and the reimbursement of fuel for heated greenhouses.
Recently a broadening of the group of subsidized activities was announced: the frozen products market, honey production facilities and solar greenhouses will be included.
