The contact group Spain-France-Italy confronted with crisis

The contact group of peaches and nectarines have evaluated situation on prices and markets.

The sector is at the edge of crisis. The sharp drop in prices was driven by lower consumption following the crisis in Germany and a mismatch between supply and demand. French producers denounced the offers of the spanish and italian peaches at the price of 79 cents per kilo on the French market, a sale price to more than 30% below their cost of production. The three countries believe that EU aid for the withdrawal of peaches and nectarines, set at 8 cents a kilo, is unacceptable.

To stem this crisis, the group agreed to remove excess caused by the drop in consumption. French officials have proposed the withdrawal of peaches and nectarines class C in the 3 countries. The group will estimate volume of production, cost and feasibility of such a measure in each country.
